Halloween Lighting Effects
Lighting is the one scene setter that can make your party spooky or not. Choosing the right lighting can enhance your scene and set the mood. It can turn a cheap plastic skeleton into something foreboding. Candles and tiki torches, with their flicking flames give the illusion that an object is moving and maybe alive. When we setup the haunted trail we have all of the scenes set and then come out with the torches to give some light to the trail and to add that eerie light to a prop or scene as needed.
We even use the torches to not only draw attention to a prop but also away from a prop or scare zone. A scare zone would be an area that a costumed monster, either a person or prop, would lurch out at the guest! Sometimes we would stand a prop on one side and one of us would be on the other side, then when the guest were expecting us to jump out on one side we would switch with the prop, swap mask and scare them from the other side. Then finally ditch the prop and have 2 people scare the guest from both sides! Yes we are quite evil sometimes.
Now here is something a lot of people overlook at this time of year, Christmas tree lights! About a week after they have set up the Halloween decorations they start putting out the Christmas stuff. Black lights, strobe lights are always great for Halloween, but a string of red lights in a tree, 2 lights taped together, gives the impression of Vampire Bats living in that spooky tree or bush. Rope lights are great for that low light effect and to help map out a trail or walkway. If you have an archway that has foliage covering it, the small green Christmas lights are prefect for enhancing their color and adding just a touch of light. If you are having the party in the backyard, wrap some white Christmas tree lights around the tree trunks, and down some of the bigger branches. This will give off plenty of light for your guest to socialize, eat and drink.
Combining different types of lighting is possible but if done incorrectly it will kill a scene instead of bringing it to life. When we setup the haunted trail we use plants, bushes and potted scrubs to help block aspects of the yard. Black plastic sheeting creates walls and helps keep unwanted light between two scenes away and separate.
Torches and candles are pretty much stand-alone. The flickering of the flames the dancing shadows add to the illusion of the scene. The light from a flame is localized, can be moved and adjusted quickly if it is overlapping another scene's lighting.
Strobe lights produce a bright blinding light that flashes giving that stop action effect. These can be set up on a motion detector, so that they come on only when a guest walks through the scene. Or use the black plastic sheeting to create a tunnel and leave the strobe on all the time. We kept the shiny side in and used several strobe lights synced up, blinking at the same time. Add in a fog machine and you have created a fantastic scare zone.
Black lights are one of my favorite lights besides torches. The fluorescent light flood an area pretty good, yet torches and any other light cancels out the effect if they are nearby. The advantage to this is that you can set up a grave yard, have the black light add that nice eerie glow to the tombstones, and using candles, small torches or even rope lights to mark the trail. Take the tunnel idea and instead of using strobe lights use black lights. Take fluorescent paint and splash on the black plastic walls; turn on the fog machine and your good to go.
As you can see lighting is one of the easiest scene setters there is. A run through is always a must the night before. Turn everything on, light the torches and candles just like the night of the party. Then do a walk through, making sure each scene is setup and that one scenes lighting is not affecting another scene. Make sure that your trail is lit and visible.
And remember have a fun safe and spooky Halloween!

Couples Costume Ideas
Couples costume ideas for Halloween are just fun. It's always good to match your mate, especially when you go to a costume party or are wandering around in the dark! The first step in selecting costumes is to decide what theme you want to dress in - spooky, sexy or just fun-loving. There are many costumes for couples available in all three.
Spooky Costumes
The Gothic Vampire and the Gothic Vampira is a classic match. Custom Vampire Fangs in Coffin are a great accessory for men and women usually prefer the "Love Bites" Deluxe Custom Fangs which comes in a heart box. The fangs just slip onto your original teeth which is way more comfortable than a plastic mouthpiece.
The costume is perfectly complemented with the Modern Vampire Wig for the man and either the Goth Vampira Wig or the Vamp Wig for the lady. Add a lovely piece of jewelry, perhaps the Blood Stone set, after all, even a lady of the night needs her jewels. Liquid blood caps and the Everlasting Kiss Kit top off the costumes. If you are into shoes, like I am, you will appreciate the black and red Vampyra adult shoes with an open toe.
If you don't want to be bloodsuckers, you might be interested in the Mummy King and Mummy Queen outfits or the Skeleton Zombie outfit matched with the Mummy Bride. For engaged or married people, the Corpse Groom and the Corpse Bride are a favorite. Make sure to make it realistic with the black rose bouquet for the corpse bride.
Sexy Couples Costumes
The Handsome Devil Elite costume is great for a man and it is even better with his girl dressed in the Devil's Delight costume on his arm.
Of course military costumes are attractive, and you've got to admit a Sailor's uniform is quite striking. Take a look at the Seafaring Sailor costume and the matching Sexy Sailor Adult Costume for women, complemented by the Matey Shoes. Don't you love the matching shoes? They are cute, ladies! They are blue and white "Matey" peep-toe shoes with a white bow topped by a red anchor, "Anchors Away " in these hot heels!
If you are into sports, the Pleated Penalizer Referee costume accompanied by those cute Taylor Boots, that are actually sneakers, goes great with the Tight End Adult Costume or the Everlast Boxer outfit. No unnecessary roughness going on here, Ref.
Robin Hood and Robyn Hood also make a great couple and Renaissance costumes are always a popular choice. Bring some gold coins for Robin to give to the poor (your friends!), after all, isn't that what he is famous for?
Fun Loving Couples Costumes
Now, couples costume ideas just wouldn't be complete without the Ball and Chain costume. This costume actually connects the couple with a strap. It is detachable of course. Great for those newly weds with a sense of humor.
The Plug and Socket costume is also very popular along with the Bacon and Eggs. You know, they just go together. These are sure to get a genuine laugh out of everyone. Perhaps you will win as the funniest costume of the party.
If you want to go back in time and look "groovy", you will love the Babe Adult Costume for Couples. It simulates Sonny and Cher and reminds us of the good old " I Got You Babe" days. If there is a grooviest prize, consider it won with this duo's costume.

Bat Clothes Pegs For Halloween
These adorable little peg bats look really cute on the washing line, but when you have pegs as cute as these bat clothes pegs you also are really good to decorating your house for Halloween. You can use them to peg up you Halloween cards to a line of string, or you can peg them to the curtains or lampshade. You could even use them to enhance your Halloween costume, or to decorate your hair. There are so many possibilities, these clothes peg bats are bound to drive you completely batty!
To make Bat pegs you will need...
Wooden sprung clothes pegs (one peg for each bat)
Matt black enamel paint (The sort you pain Airfix models with)
A sheet of black foam
Wobbly eyes and PVA glue
A bat wing template is freely available to print off on the site.
First you need to take the pegs to bits. Keep the metal springs in a safe place for later. And paint all the wooden parts with the matt black paint. They will probably only need one coat, but you do need to paint all sides so you will have to wait for one side to dry before painting the reverse side.
Once the wooden part of the pegs are dry, put the pegs back together again. You might need an adult to help you reassemble the pegs, as the springs can be very strong. You made need to touch up the black paint on some of the pegs.
Cut out bat wings from the foam. You need two wings for each bat.
Dab some clear drying PVA glue along the bat wing and stick it to the side of the peg. The top of the wing should be lined up with the spring in the peg. Leave this peg to one side to give the glue chance to dry before sticking the other wing on. Once both the wings are on, peg the bat onto a cup or something and leave to dry.
When the wings are dry, glue on some wobbly eyes to your bat, just above where the spring in the peg is. Once the glue is dry, you bat is ready to hang around and look spooky.

Peggy the Peg Art Skeleton - Halloween Decoration
Peg art is a craft where clothes pegs are used as the building material. Peggy the peg Art Skeleton is made from sprung clothes pegs and a wooden spoon. Peggy's arms and legs all move at their joints because the peg limbs are joined on the inside with wool to make the peg art moveable.
Peggy makes a great Halloween toy or a Halloween decoration to make your house look spookier on Halloween.
To make Peggy the Peg Art Skeleton you will need...
Wooden Sprung Pegs (dismantled and all the springs discarded except for 6. You may wish to use some pegs as clamps whilst the glue dries.)
Wood Glue
Wool or String
Paint
Skeletons Ribs
The skeleton ribs are two peg halves joined together at the tapered ends and overlapping one another about the same distance as the spoon handle is wide. Make and sick 6 ribs to the wooden spoon handle. The bottom set of ribs should not stick out as far as the ribs above so make the overlap bigger on this rib. Make sure you leave the skeleton a neck and leave some of the bottom of the spoon handle available for the pelvis bone.
Skeletons Arms
The skeleton arms have string or wool running through them. With a length of string doubled in half, thread the loop through 6 of the discarded peg springs, and then thread the rest of the string through the loop and pull tight to that the springs are firmly connected to the end of the string. This is the skeleton's hand.
Stick two peg halves, back to back with the string sandwiched between. The tapered end of the pegs should point to the hand. This is the forearm.
In a similar fashion glue two more peg halves so that the rounded end meets the rounded ends of the forearm. This is the skeleton's upper arm.
Finally make the skeletons shoulder with two more pegs, the rounded ends meeting the tapered ends of the upper arm. Cut the remaining string at the tapered ends of the skeleton's shoulder.
Make two arms in this way. Use some pegs as clamps to hold the pegs until the glue has started to fix the pegs. Leave to one side to dry.
Skeletons Legs
The skeleton legs, like the arms have string running through them. As before, double the string up and wrap around a peg half so that the string slots into the groove that the spring grabbing bit of metal once was. Make a loop and feed the remaining string through the loop so that the peg half is attached to the end of the string (shaped side up). This is the skeleton's foot.
Make the shin like the forearm with two peg halves, the tapered end pointing towards the foot.
The thigh starts off in the same way as the upper arm, with two peg halves sandwiching the string and the rounded part meeting the rounded part of the shin. On top of this two more peg halves are attached. Join these peg halves with their rounded ends glued to the tapering pegs of the upper arm like pegs and stick their tapered tip together with the string sandwiched between. Leave the string thread long on the legs.
Make two legs alike and leave to one side to dry.
Skeletons Shoulder Blade
Take the main skeleton part with the spoon and ribs, and place it face down on the table. Just above the ribs and still leaving the skeleton a neck, glue the skeleton's shoulders to the spoon handle. (Tapered ends to the spoon) To support the shoulders make some shoulder blades in the same way as you made the ribs, and glue them to the shoulder pieces and over the spoon. Leave to dry.
Skeletons Pelvis
To make the skeleton's pelvis bone you firstly need to make three ribs. Glue the ribs to the back of the main part just above the end of the spoon handle. Don't leave any gaps between the rib like parts of the pelvis.
Leave these parts to dry before continuing.
Turn the skeleton over. Cover the pelvis area in glue, and stick the length of string from the leg to the pelvis so that the leg will hang from the middle of the pelvis bone. Then stick three peg halves on top of the pelvis. Tapered ends to meet the spoon handle and with the central peg sticking out a little further than the other pegs to give a more rounded look to the pelvis bone.
Leave to dry.
Finishing Your Peg Art Skeleton
Give all the sides and surfaces of the Skeleton a couple of coats of white or glow in the dark paint.
Give your Skeleton a spooky skull like face.

Cake Decorating For Halloween
Among all the functions for which you can decorate a cake, none makes a more creative work of art like Halloween themes. The culture dates back to the Celtic rituals that took place ages ago. The idea behind it is that the spirit and ghost world and the human world do cross each others paths at one time during the yearly calendar. It is believed that it is possible for the spirits to come back to earth. The date for this is believed to be on the 31st of every October.
In the ancient days, the day was reserved to commemorate the dead and also to mark the beginning of a new year which happened too fall on the 1st of November. With time the two were combined with the Celtic traditions and this is where the modern day Halloween celebrations got their roots. Today, however, it is celebrated as a way of having fun.
Now you can never imagine a celebration without a cake, can you? Those decorated for this celebration will carry with them a lot of themes that are represented by some amazing characters that can get the hell out of you. It is not uncommon to see creations of skeletons, ghosts, mythical monsters, bats, owls, crows, haunted houses, black cats and pumpkin men, all 'gracing' the bakery product.
Cake decorating with Halloween with mind can be a fun activity, especially if you incorporate the small children in the whole process. Children always have fun ideas and at the end of it all, they will be made to feel that they were an important asset in the decoration process. They can come up with the figures of Grim Reaper or a witch.
